Your next step is to complete the Compassionate Leadership Storyline—a reflective essay that invites you to explore your leadership identity through self-compassion.
More than an application, this process helps you recognize your strengths, grow from challenges, and clarify the legacy you hope to build.
Special Storyline Opportunity – Optional
One participant will be chosen for a fully funded fellowship at Collegio Ghislieri in Pavia, Italy (November 4, 2025) — an immersive experience to deepen your leadership practice and broaden your global perspective. At the end of your essay briefly explain (100 words) how this international experience would enhance your compassionate leadership journey.

What to Include in Your Essay
Your reflection should be 2,400–3,000 words total and organized into three main sections:
1. Your Leadership Story (800–1000 words)
- 1.1 Peak Leadership Moment
(250-300 words) Describe a time when you felt most effective and energized as a leader or potential leader. What was happening? What strengths were you using? Paint a vivid picture of this moment—what did success look like, feel like, and sound like?
- 1.2 Leadership Inspiration
(200-250 words) Tell us about an educator or leader who has inspired you. What qualities did they possess that made them memorable? How did they influence your understanding of what great leadership looks like?
- 1.3 Leadership Experiences That Brought Out Your Best
(200-250 words) What leadership experiences have you had (formal or informal) that brought out the best in you? This could include mentoring a colleague, leading a project, facilitating difficult conversations, or inspiring change.
- 1.4 Your Emerging Vision
(150-200 words) When you imagine yourself as the leader you’re becoming, what impact do you see yourself having? What legacy do you want to create in education?
2. Exploring Self-Compassion (800–1000 words)
- 2.1 Learning from Challenge
(250-300 words) Think of a challenging moment in your educational career. How did you treat yourself during that time? What would it have looked like to respond with self-compassion? Be specific about the internal dialogue you experienced versus what a self-compassionate response might have sounded like.
- 2.2 Defining Professional Self-Kindness
(150-200 words) What does “being kind to yourself” mean to you in your professional context? How might this differ from personal self-kindness?
- 2.3 Self-Compassion in Action
(250-300 words) Describe a time when practicing self-care or self-kindness actually made you a more effective educator or leader. What did you do differently, and what were the results?
- 2.4 Transforming Your Approach to Setbacks
(150-200 words) What would change in your daily work if you approached setbacks and mistakes as learning opportunities rather than failures? Be specific about current patterns you’d like to shift.
3. Your Vision for Compassionate Leadership (800–1000 words)
- 3.1 Imagining Transformation
(250-300 words) Imagine an educational environment where leaders’ model self-compassion. What would students, teachers, and families experience differently? Describe this environment in concrete, observable terms.
- 3.2 Addressing Educational Challenges
(250-300 words) How might self-compassionate leadership help address current challenges in education (stress, burnout, difficult conversations, change management)? Provide specific examples of how this approach could create positive change.
- 3.3 Your Learning Curiosities
(150-200 words) What aspects of self-compassionate leadership are you most curious to explore? What questions do you hope to answer through this training?
- 3.4 Growth and Impact Goals
(150-200 words) How do you hope this training will support your growth as a future leader? What specific changes do you want to see in yourself and your practice?

- Submit as a single PDF (under 15mb, please)
- Use specific examples and stories
- Be authentic and reflective
- All submissions will remain confidential
- Fellowship selection is based on depth of reflection, commitment to growth, and potential for impact
